The Maryland Artifact Recovery Society was formed in 1978, and continues to
grow and evolve. Its members represent a broad spectrum of treasure hunters
and metal detectorists, which includes Colonial and Civil War relic/artifact
hunters, beach and shallow water hunters, coinshooters, and even gold
panners. Our members use all brands of detectors such as White’s, Minelab,
Garrett, Tesoro, Fisher and others. We have all levels of users from the
professional to the novice.
We host an Open Hunt each year as well as a Closed Hunt. By Open and
Closed we mean that anyone can enter the Open Hunts but the Closed hunts
are just for the club members. These are hunts where we plant coins as well
as other objects for you to find. There are tokens planted also which can be
turned in for nice prizes. We also try to have other non-planted hunts when
places can be found to have them.
Our meetings are held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, on the 4th
Wednesday of every month, at 7:30 PM. At these meetings we discuss club
business, have guest speakers. At these meetings we also have a display
board where club members can bring in their finds to show. These boards
have winners that receive a silver coin and all who display are awarded points
which are used to determine the Hunter of The Year. This person receives an
award. We also have a 50/50 drawing, leg of gold drawing and refreshments.
The greatest thing about belonging to a metal detector club is meeting and
socializing with other people who are also crazy about finding treasures.
